I am new to the whole myth tv and knopmyth so this might be an easy question, but every time I tune into a channel, even if it is just for 10 seconds it shows up in my recorded shows. Is there any way to disable this so only shows I choose to record in the guide show up, and not just random channels I tune into?

Thanks in advance for helping out a newbie like me :)

I guess it's because LiveTV in MytTV isn't actually "Live", but instead it is recorded and then played back. That's why you are about three seconds behind if comparing to "normal" TV.

That said, I'm having the exact same problem, and I don't want to clean up the recordings list every time I stop watcing tv.

Correct, the feed is buffered to allow you to pause, rewind, etc. See tjc's tip in http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=14027

Seriously guys, don't obsess about this. For a PVR to work like a PVR it's has to record the stuff it captures. It doesn't know what you're actually going to watch or what you're just surfing past. Uniformly using the same recording mechanisms has huge benefits in terms of both the codes architecture, system reliability, ease of setup, and the user experience. Not only that but the system is really smart about expiring these so you really don't have to worry about them "cluttering up the disk".

BTW - As you may already be discovering "Channel surfing" on a MythTV box really isn't the best way to use it. Rather than scrolling through the channels during a commercial or when the show gets boring, hit the menu button and scroll through the program guide. That way you'll *know* what's on the other channels rather than having to stare at it for long enough to recognize it, or waiting for the commercial there to end. You can also enable browse mode in the setup that lets you do this with the OSD rather than the program guide.

Oh ok, thanks. That was more what I was concerned with, that my box would fill up to fast because of this. Now that I know that it expires them out quicker then scheduled recordings I will not worry as much.

And even better - after watching something for (say) 10 minutes
you can hit record and the whole show (including the initial 10 minutes) gets recorded/saved in your long term list. Thats new and very cool.

IIRC (not at my pvr right now) you can have the shows list hide 'live tv' recordings. At least I dont see them without hitting the menu button.

Yes, You can a setting "Show Live TV in recordings" or something worded as such....

Utilities/setup -> setup -> tv settings -> playback -> 4th screen
