hi,

i (poor me) have lost login name and pw. for my knoppmyth box...
is there a way to re-find this or to make a new login/pw without losing the current setup??

(b.t.w.: i can start and use the knoppmyth box, but cannot login on it from another machine in my network).

thanks,
rob

This caught me and it may be your problem. During setup they asked for a password for web login usage (not sure of the actual terminology). This password would be used when attempting to log into mythweb, but would still used the mythtv user name.

As for finding that password if the above does not help, I am unsure.

Boot with the cd, mount your root partition, chroot to that mount point, run passwd and set the root password.

BTW - If you upgraded to R5F1 there's a reason you can't login remotely as root, please see the R5F1 hints posting under known changes...

tjc - thank you for your work on the tips and tricks! I recently did upgrade to r5f1 and lost the ability to log in to my mythweb. I was trying to use the mythtv login and not root though. I searched the tips and tricks you posted and also looked in the .htaccess file (which brought me to the htdigest file). I made sure mythtv was in the htdigest file but I still couldn't log into mythweb as mythtv user. Is there something else I am missing?

Code:
rm /etc/htdigest
htdigest -c /etc/htdigest MythTV <username1>
htdigest /etc/htdigest MythTV <username2>

The 3rd command is optional if you want to add additional users. The point is though only use the -c switch the 1st time you run the htdigest command.
