Thanks to Ashlar in the post http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1514 for this info.

1) Run dis:
$ perl -MCPAN -e shell
cpan> install XML::Twig
cpan> install Date::Manip
cpan> install LWP
cpan> install XML::Writer
cpan> install SOAP::Lite
cpan> exit

2) Run dat:
$ tv_grab_na_icons

enter you postal code and your provider.
This will download the latest icons. You will still have to manually put them in your database.

It's worth noting that the other (manual DL) source has icons that zap2it doesn't have. I've used it to fill in about a half dozen that were always missing.

After doing a fresh install of r4v5, there are no icons in /home/mythtv/.mythtv/channels. I migrated my db from an earlier version of knoppmyth but I didn't backup my icons. Is there a way to get these in my channels folder?

Thanks

I followed the above instructions to get the packages to run tv_grab_icons_na. Then I ran the following SQL to update all the callsigns.

Code:
mysql -u mythtv --password=mythtv mythconverg <<EOF
update channel set icon=CONCAT("/usr/share/xmltv/icons/", callsign, ".jpg");
EOF

Remember, directly hacking the DB like this is for consenting adults only, and you should always be very sure that you know what you're doing and have a current back up.

A little trick I found for editing the DB (still not for the faint of heart...):

Do a mythbackup. Go to the /myth/backup directory and backup the .sql file. Then edit the .sql file directly. Then do a mythrestore.

The main advantage of this is that while the .sql file is *big*, all the table names and row formats are there to tweeked/copied/deleted rather then conjured. Also no need to worry about the magical command line options.

Cheers,

Allen

What Knoppmyth version are you using? Starting with R5A22 a perl script to automate this is included in the distro.

Code:
perl /usr/bin/mkiconmap.pl

(Respond to the prompts accordingly)

Code:
mythfilldatabase --import-icon-map iconmap.xml --update-icon-map

When you say you are editing the database via the webadmin. Am I editing the channel callsign colum to say ABC.gif or do I leave the extension off or do I put the path. When I did the dowload for the channel logo I got a few files that are ex. ABC.url instead of a .jpg or a .gif. So I had to manually download all of them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I hope this makes sense.
