Alt-M starts mythfrontend too (in recent R5 Alphas).

Ok, I ended up using nano, because when I type "vi" in xterm, nothing happens.

So, in "/etc/lilo.conf" , I changed the vga=791 to vga=normal, and it made no change. When I try to bootup with ONLY s-video connected, I get something like "unspecified video mode" and it asks for the user to specify a number -- 1-6.

Any other suggestions? ---- I believe you are correct about it having to do with Lilo, because the line above the "error" it says Lilo.

As Xsecrets said way back on the previous page, you must follow your editing by running the command "lilo -v" in order to apply the change.

EDIT: don't forget to then reboot.

aHA, I appended the file in nano, so I thought that "saved" the changes.

I'm absolutely hating linux so far, but I guess it just takes getting used to a lot of command line usage (xterm) after a mouse has made you lazy.

Well, I updated /etc/lilo.conf and then lilo -v.

Upon reboot, with only S-Video connected, it booted up just fine, got past the previous snag, but when it gets done "booting" and gets into myth, the screen is totally black. I mean I can watch it bootup until the scrolling text stops, then the screen just goes black.

Anyone heard of this?

yes you have some sort of a problem with a video mode in XF86Config-4 that your tv doesn't like. if you are using a nvidia card then try the tvout sample file or search the forum or look on the wiki at the tvout howto for ideas of what to change and try.
