Post subject:  Mythweb

I have 2 questions regarding mythweb:

1) What is the external address for mythweb. On my intrernal netwrok it is 192.168.1.106/mythweb/ . However I do not know its external address(obviously I can find my external IP, but thats a secret :D ). Will I need to change anything to make it externally accessible?

2) How do I stream recordings via mythweb. The Wiki says that it should work by default in R5B7, whoever whenever I go to set up a stream when I press the link: http://mythtv:8001 it tries to open up in a web page, or if i set it up as an mms it opens mms://mythtv:8001 in WMP but it says it cannot connect to the stream. Do I need to change any settings?

Thanks in advance!
PS: I am using a clean R5B7 install.

1) Are you connected to the Internet via a router? You will need to set it up so that hits to your external IP get routed to port 80 of your mythtv box (for you, 192.168.1.106).

2) What I do is use VLC and the Open URL command, then give it the http address with the 8001 port. That works.

1) isn't port 80 the HTTP port, will this cause any problems with normal web browsing on the other computers?(just set that up and it seems to work so good)

2)are you refering to the network stream function?

1) Yes it is, but you're telling the router to send incoming requests on that port to your MythTV box. Outgoing traffic over port 80 is unaffected.

2) Yes, talking about the network stream function. VLC is a.k.a. Video LAN Client. I run it on the Mac and use its Open URL command to open the stream running on my backend. Internally I use the 192.168.x.x address, externally I use the external IP.

sounds like the way to go, ill try it

EDIT: just tryed it eventually it just told me http://192.168.1.106:8001 could not be connected to, should I forward 8001 to my mythbox?

If you're trying to reach it internally, you don't need to do anything to the router like port forwarding... that's only for external requests like port 80 for http.

Sorry I can't be of much more help than that.

Hmm, now it doesn't give me an error message, it just sits there and nothing plays. Is it possible my computer is missing the driver for the .nuv files and thats why VLC can't play it?

Not if you are starting the streams via the StreamTV link from the main MythWeb page... it is transcoding your .nuv files into something streamable like DivX3 or WMV2.

Hmmmm, now I am really stumped. Is it possible that it is buffering and I am trying to connect before it has enough buffered to play?

Also I noticed that it is being streamed with VLC 0.8.1, I have VLC 0.8.5, could this be the problem?

EDIT: Just got the error "nothing to play" not sure what to do now

EDIT2: i got the .nuv codec and i am just downloading the files(by clicking on them in recorded programs page) which is fine for now, but wont work so well when I am not at home(lack of codec and the fact that the data transfer would be insanely slow compared to the 11MB/s on my network)

Like I said, if you want to stream TV, you should be using the Stream TV option at the MythWeb "main menu" web page (http://your_backend_IP/mythweb/) , not by clicking a recorded program's name on the Recorded Program's page.

I am having the same problem - when I click on the streamtv link, then set up a stream, I can not connect, either with divx or wm, or via http or mms. I have tried to connect via the links on the page, and by typing in the address to VLC and WMP, and nothing seems to work. any ideas?
