So, I have my router forwarding port 8001. I can get a pretty good stream (no buffer under runs) using DIV3, VS:128, AS:48, VS:100%, FPS:10 What I can't figure out is how to skip, rewind, pause, etc. The MythWeb StreamTV page seems to have buttons for this once streaming begins, but they don't appear to alter the stream. So, what do you use for StreamTV viewing? How do you pause, skip commercials, or rewind to catch a sentence that you didn't hear clearly? Right now I'm using WMP cause I'm trying to get this to work for my parents. I can get them setup with any player, I guess, but I cannot switch them to another OS. (Which they really need!) |

Howdy, I have been able to use the stream control buttons to control the vlc stream of recordings The buttons send commands to the VLC control port define by the --http-host= command line option to VLC. I am still on a KM version 4.x. I have had no time to upgrade KM of the streaming code. I did create some updates to the streaming code but they are based on the 4.x mythweb. I watch videos via VLC streaming more then via the mythfrontend. since it all works for me, I have no incentive to move forward. |

I'm really glad to hear that it's working so well for you. I think that this feature is one of the best things MythTV has going for it. (But I usually think that of every new feature that I find.) I want my wife to get to start doing this, but I have to get the usability solid. So, you say you use the stream controls. It seems to me that even if the buttons were working, that because of the buffering, the buttons wouldn't be very responsive. eg: When you pause, it wouldn't pause until the buffer ran out. More importantly, when you hit the 30 second skip, it wouldn't take effect for 15 seconds (because of the buffer), then when it skipped, you'd be 45 seconds ahead and have missed 15 seconds of your show. Is this your experience? What player are you using? It seems that MPlayer, of VLC player could you a stream control plugin to make it more useful for interactive streams. |

that is my exact experience. there is a delay...I use the buttons to do multi-minute jumps....usually to get back to where I had previously left off. Pause is pretty useful when the coffee cup is empty If you are having issues with the mythweb implementation of teh buttons, try issuing the http request to the http-host directly into a separate browser window. what version of knoppmyth/mythtv are you running |
