Ok I am trying to do apt-get for x11vnc also for pretty much anything else
also tried ndiswrapper, linneighborhood

every time i execute apt-get install anything it tells me Couldn't find package

I have added http://www.debian.multimedia.org/ sid main

I do not know what else to do!

Ive been reading pages and pages and nobody else seems to have this problem yet this has been a problem during 3 "start from scratch" reinstalls

Before you use apt-get you need to run
Code:
apt-get update

which will update the list of packages available from the sources you have defined.
NB1 NOT upgrade which will give you a headache followed by a reinstall.
NB2 apt-get can roach your box. Make sure you check what it wants to install (and remove) and don't proceed if you aren't sure that they are all necessary. Check the wiki for a list of stable sites which will reduce the scale of the problem.

ok I successfully found a package today, so I think I jsut do not have the proper source for VNC server and for linneighborhood.
linneighborhood is a "my network places" with GUI for linux. would be fantastic to be able to get that working... but thats just a plus so far I can watch tv! and play dvd's! and uhhh.. well Im working on the wireless the ability to RIP and everythign else.... I am almost bald now.

I've had the same problem with R5C7. With the default mirrors I can't install firefox for example.

---------------Edit-------------------
Well that was odd. I switched the first item in the sources.list to unstable updated. Then switched it back and updated. Now I can install firefox. ODD!

Hi,

If you want to find the correct name for a package, exit back to the desktop and bring up Synaptic. I don't use it to install, just to get the proper names. I have found that if I install an app via Synaptic that it doesn't show up in the menu. Installing with apt-get, the new app will be listed.
