I know, I know....dumb noob question. But I've been using KnoppMyth R5B7 for a couple of months now. And so far I'm pretty impressed. But I've seen where people talk about using a Front-end. Why? Would that be something in another room so I can watch my MythTV content on another TV?

If that's true, would I use just another, old PC or my original Xbox (I'm thinking about buying an XBox-360 so my original could be availalbe). I'm not asking for setup specifics, but could someone give me some examples on how/why I would use a front-end, whether it's a PC or XBox?

Thank you in advance...

You might have another front-end in a dedicated home-theatre room, or games room, or the kitchen, or one of your kid's bedrooms?

I use my Mac laptop from the couch as a frontend to edit the adverts out. I can do that at the same time that we are watching other stuff on our main KnoppMyth machine.

Your current mythtv setup already uses a frontend. Knoppmyth installs and sets up a backend+frontend system. You can then add additional frontends that connect to the original backend. The additional frontends will have all the same features as the original frontend just they communicate over the network.
