Post subject: | mplayer & srt subtitles |
Hi, I would like to watch some avi's (divx/xvid) with .srt subtitles. But I don't get it to work. What do I need for this to work. Please check with me: - specific filename format?? Same name as avi file doesn't work. The movie actually doesn't show anymore - font? I have put a font in the /usr/local/share/mplayer/font dir - specific commandline option? - specific keymapping in key setup or lircrc Any help very much appreciated. BTW is the mplayer OSD as "minimal" as I get it. just the play, or whatever other icon and when searching a position bar. thx!! |

hi. make sure the .srt file is located at the same place as the .avi file (and is named exactly the same, ie movie.avi & movie.srt) then in settings for mplayer edit the command line so that it includes: -vobsub %s eg my mplayer command line looks like this: mplayer -fs -monitoraspect 1366:768 -vobsub %s -quiet -vo xv %s |

Doesn't work ![]() When I have a .avi and .srt file in the same dir the movie won't play. When I delete or rename the .srt it will play, but obviously without subs. |

Have you tried the command from an xterm? Doing so, will let you see what mplayer spits out... I've played movies w/ subs w/o issue. I forget the format(s) however... |

I just recall that I've updated mplayer with the script provided on the knoppmyth cd. Is that maybe the issue? |

Ohh, thanks! Just kidding, I did of course check out the docs, but I wouldn't say it's obvoius. Anyhow, for others equaly stupid this is what I think should work: Add Code: subfont-text-scale=XX
to $HOME/.mplayer/config This works on my Ubuntu box but not on my R5C7 KnoppMyth. I find this strange, thats why I was asking... |

Thx guys for all the help. I finally got the time to really try and fix it. I did the following: - created a subfont.ttf simlink to an arial ttf file in the /home/mythtv/.mplayer dir - I also added the option -sub %s next to the -vobsub %s as the manual of mplayer said that this was the option for text based subs. (Don't know if this actually did something, because I made both changes at the same time.) -Finally I changed some settings to make the text a bit smaller. Unfortunately I can't get the text lower on top of the black banner below the movie. The value of 100 positions it on top of the movie and at the bottom, but not below. |
