First let me thank all who help with this project and help folks on this board. When I installed KnoppMyth it just worked, NICE! Don't get me wrong, it took a little tweaking and now I am stuck. I have searched for different terms on the board and read dozens of threads, and while they were very interesting and informative, I have not found one that deals with this issue.

I have an Intel 845 MB with an Nvidia Geforce FX5200 that has VGA and DVI output and a Hauppauge 150 pvr.

The TV is a Olevia 37" LCD HTDV that has HDMI, VGA, Componant, and SVideo Composit and RF analog and DV inputs.

At first I was going from the NVidia VGA to the TV VGA and could not get a good solution to overscan that was visible from boot to myth, but when I watch live TV I get the proper 4/3 aspect ratio with pillars on the TV for Standard analog TV. The entire image was shifted a bit but with the black pillars on each side, it didn't matter.

So, I got a DVI - HDMI cable and now the output is Fantastic from boot to the Knopp desktop and MythTV at 1366x768 resolution (which is the recommended resolution of this LCD). But, when I watch Live TV with Myth, the image is similar to being Standard Analog being zoomed. This causes the image to be real blotchy looking. I have tried different resolutions by feeding them into GTF and using the modelines it gives me. So far 640x480@60, 720x480@60 and 1280x720@60 and all produce the same zoomed affect on live tv.

Let me add that I have tried setting the aspect ratio manually on the TV and in Myth and this has no affect.

Can anyone point me to a solution or give me a hint what to try to solve this?

Thanks
Don

First of all, nvidia cards require a resolution divisable by 8, i.e. 1360x768.

Hit the "w" key to go thru all zoom modes when watching TV...

I couldn't get my viewsonic to sync with 1360x768 and it would got 1280x1024 giving me choppy playback.

I searched for a HD modeline that would work and found:
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Modeline_Database

This won't give you one-to-one pixel results, but will give you 720p output:

I picked the standard ATSC modeline for 720p and added to my /etc/X11/XFConfig-4 file under "Monitor" section, using the name HD720p.

Commented out: DDC, DRI and GLcore under Module section.

Added: Option "TvStandard" "HD720p" line to the Screen section.
Added: "HD720p" to the Modes line (first one), under the default depth section, i.e. 24.

Had some overscan in both GUI and TV, so I modified Screen settings GUI width x height to 1280 x 720 and checked Use GUI size for TV playback. This is under Utilities/Settings, Settings, Appearance

Great picture with using VGA or DVI, prefer VGA because I have more options for stretching/zooming. Note that I was unable to get component out to work properly, got a small picture in the middle of the screen... would prefer it, reduces switching to different input.... still working on it...

Did all of this, had no affect on the live tv issue. So, I decided to let the live tv go and work on another problem.

From the get go, I had incredibly small fonts (unreadable) on the desktop and on the myth menus. I fixed some of the myth stuff by going into setup on the mythfrontend and changing all the font sizes to their max (48 ). Still small on the myth menus and the desktop.

In an attempt to fix this I set the display size using the math that tjc left in a thread (hres/75*25.4 and vres/75*25.4 for 75/75 dpi) to get the values for DisplaySize. This still had no affect on the desktop fonts or the LiveTV. Looking into XFFree86.0.log and found EDID was setting the dpi to (29,27). I found and set the Option "UseEdidDpi" "false" and this fixed the small font problem. Lo and behold, the live tv is now in the proper 4:3 ratio and I have the pillars on the sides. Don't know how this all ties together but it is nice to finally get the live tv and desktop fonts the way they should be.

Thanks for your help.

Detected EDID values orverride the DisplaySize hints in the XF86Config-4 file because "UseEdidDpi" defaults to "true".
