What feature is being used when I click on a thumbnail preview in Recorded Programs? http://mythtv/mythweb/tv/recorded

I'm using R5C7 and have two very similar, new installations. One has a PVR-500 and the other a PVR-150. When I click on a thumbnail on the 150 box magically (to me) Windows Media Player opens and the show plays. My family would like this. With IE I click on a thumbnail in the 500 box I get "The selected file has a scheme that is not recognized by WMP...", followed by "WMP encountered an unknown error...". With Mozilla I get a friendlier error "An external applications must be launched... myth://10.14.80.64:6543/1048_2006071619000.mpg ... Windows Media Player" followed by the same "WMP encountered an unknown error...".

http://mythtv/mythweb/streamtv works. I can check mark a show and start a stream (with mozilla anyway) and that plays from either machine.

I have the machine's actual ip address in the General section of mythtv-setup and have commented out the skip-networking line in /etc/mysql.cnf

So, I've been looking up MythStreamTVLive, MythContentOnWindows, port 6543 and so on in the wiki and forums. I really think I can figure this out but I'm getting stuck on which functionality to be looking into for this. When I search I get way too many interesting articles that don't address the issues I'm having... Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks

the pvr-500 box also has an hd-3000, 1 gb ram, 300 gb sata drive only, intel embedded video (a different long story), & P4 cpu.
the pvr-150 box has 1gb ram, 60 gb conventional parallel IDE drive, /myth on a sata drive, nvidia, & P4 cpu.

These comments come from someone with a non-upgraded myth box, I am running the 'older' version of mythweb.

Couple questions / comments...

On the two different boxes, are the URLs referenced by the thumbnail the same? are they myth: on on both boxes? The myth: protocol requires codecs on the PC to understand what to do / how to access the data. I have never used those. This data is passed back to the client via the webserver, its the clients job to figure out what to do

mythstreamtv is different, it creates a server process on the backend that 'listens' on a different port then the webserver. This server process streams the recording or live tv in eihter mms: or http: protocol (user selected on the form) Windows 'understands' both of these protocols without you needing to add anything (codecs).

I looks to me like you have a mix of things going on, you have the mythstreamtv stuff configured and running. and the recorded programs form coded with myth: URLs. I updated my recorded programs form. The links beking the tumbnail and title now point to mythstreamyv_confirm.php

Code:
http://<ipaddress>/mythweb/mythstreamtv_confirm.php?streamfile[]=/myth/tv/1011_20060715150000_20060715153000.nuv

So click on the thumbnail, click on Start Stream, click on the http: or mms: links on mythstreamtv_createfile.php and the player starts.

I am aware that the new version of mythweb and mythstreamtv do not play nice together, others have provided patches to get things working.
