Post subject:  Changing the recording card with scheduled recordings

Okay, this is what I want to do. I have a system with a PVR-150 connected to a cable box, and a pvr-500 directly to the wall.

I DO NOT have an IR-blaster connected to the cable box, my box has a feature that lets you change the channel on it automaticly, without a blaster. What I want to do, is when I schedule a recording, is make the mythbox record using one of the OTHER tuners, NOT TUNER 0, which is the one with the box attached to it. Myth calls this recorer 1, so i want it to use tuner 2, or recorder 3 to save the programs I selected.

If this isnt possible, how can i tell myth to record a show with tuner 0, or recorder 1, (the one with the box) without having it change the channel. I want it to STAY on channel 3, but still be able to use the guide, to setup my recording.

BTW: thanks everyone, my box is up and nearly perfect. The only problems are the ones that I described.

Do you get different lineups on the connection to the wall vs. the box?

If not, why bother with the box at all? PPV?

How is the cable box controlled "automatically"? Serial cable? USB cable? Firewire Cable? PFM? Fickled finger of fate?

How is the PVR-150 connected to the cable box? S-Video? Composite? Coax with a signal rebroadcast on some fixed channel? If it's the last (& lowest quality) one, then under Input Connections you can use the "preset tuner to channel:" option for that cards tuner input. This also requires an external tuning "script" even if it's just "/bin/true" (always returns success).

In mythtv-setup, under input connections you can set a priority or preference value for each input you're using. The more prefered inputs will be used first for recordings. With two tuner inputs on the PVR-500 in front of the PVR-150 you shouldn't have many cases where it tries to use that input. I think you can even make the rnaking negative which has some special effect. The MythTV manual has more detail, especially on how the scheduler picks resources.

Thanks again TJC, I'll have to buy you a beer at the cask and flagon before a game sometime
