To all/any:

Has anyone gotten to the point of trying to recompile the kernel?

If you have, has anyone been bold enough to try 'remastering' the CD in a chroot environment with added/removed software and kernel patches applied?

Has anyone tried applying the 'vanilla' Xbox-linux.org kernel patch against the 2.6.15-chw2 custom kernel?

If YES, did the patch apply cleanly?

I'm asking, since I use a modded Xbox currently with XBMC and the XBMCMythTV python script. It connects just fine to KnoppMyth R5C7 backends using protocol 26.

The problem is, the backend thinks it's connected to the frontend Xbox, even AFTER I shut it off, preventing my backend from auto-powering off as I've configured it to.

Help me Obi-wan, you're my only hope.

As far as I'm aware, only one person has stated that they got KnoppMyth to work with the xbox (this was something ago and the person never gave details). Niether Dale or I have an XBox nor do we have an interest in the xbox. Sorry, I have no idea what it would take to get KnoppMyth work with the xbox. As far as I'm aware, the xbox needs to be modded which is against the DMCA. Sorry, there will be no official support for the xbox. Good luck.

The process involves loading Xebian and then loading an install script for MythTV (not KnoppMyth). Start by checking the following:

It seems like interest in running MythTV over Linux on the Xbox has pretty much died lately. The last time I tried it took a long time to boot and the interface was to slow to be usable. As far as I can tell XBMCMythTV killed it. I'm looking forward to Myth on the 360 which should have more than enough horse power for High Def output. ;)

I understand the reservations. I guess I was just wondering whether anyone had tried a major patching job before and how they'd done it...you know, mount the Knoppix ISO file, copy it over to a remaster directory, add/remove apps and files, etc. in a chroot environment and then pack up the iso and burn it to a CD. That was really at the heart of the question.

The basis of my Xbox-interest is as a low-power master box running 24/7, not as a hacked gaming console...stealing's not my game. Where I live, power is getting expensive so a box that consumes 37 watts is much better than 300+ watts. At under $100 per used box and $0 for the TSOP BIOS flash, good value...period.

I'm running Cromwell BIOS flashed to the CMOS on the Xbox. The Xbox Linux project http://www.xbox-linux.org has stated it's perfectly legal and does not violate the DMCA in that form. I don't run a modchip in that box and never plan to. I run a variant of Damn Small Linux for Xbox on my box right now to act as a music server using SlimServer and Perl with SaMBa for file management from a WinBox.

I like KnoppMth very much for its power, simplicity, elegance and for making my PVR setup life SOOOO much easier.

With the amount of norking around to tweak linux into working on an Xbox, the question really distills down to this...would the KnoppMyth project prefer I leave the Xbox stuff off the table?

If I were successful in producing an ISO of a frontend, Xbox bootable LiveCD, would the project be interested in that IF and ONLY if it were bootable through Cromwell BIOS?

I am not into upsetting the applecart here Cesman. Just let me know what you think.

With a full time job and no vacation coming anytime soon...I've decided to go "gray market" and use the XBMC MythTV python script with a couple of modifications to suit my needs.

I don't require a fully functional frontend in my LAN, so a custom build isn't needed.

If the wind blows from the East in the next few weeks, I may reconsider and remaster X-DSL and MythTV frontend and some plug ins.

I did an X-DSL remaster for SlimServer with Java, Perl updates, MPlayer and a few other goodies...so it wouldn't be too tough slogging up an ISO.

Am I talking myself into it, or what?

Not sure if you're interesting in running MythTV on Xebian or are intent on mastering a version of KnoppMyth for the XBox, however, I'm currently running KM R5C7 on the backend with two XBoxes running Xebian 1.1.4 and MythTV 0.19 fixes as frontends with much success. Check out:
