I saw that you could do PiP with two tuners. What I want to know is can I do it with just one? Play a recording and watch live tv, or two recordings? Or even the myth menu for ripping a cd and a recording?

Answer is "no," you need two tuners to do PiP. PiP is only available while watching LiveTV, and it doesn't give you the option to view a previous recording in the PiP window.

This has been mentioned before in the MythTV list but I think the developers feel it only makes sense when wanting to watch and switch between two live events (and thus need two tuners).

Ah, okay. Not a huge deal with me. I was mainly wanting it so I could monitor other processes (like cd/dvd rips) while watching a recording.

Gotta say that PIP for recordings or MythPlugins is a pretty good idea.

Scenario, Watching the Sunday game live, comm comes on, PIP to MythTV recording watch last night's recording show with the live TV game in PIP, game comes back on, pause recording, flip PIP to game, repeat....

 Hmmm, I recall a discussion on gossamer boards about creating a dummy tuner and having it loop a video. May be a little hacky but that could work and chaning the source of tuner is just a .mpg in MySQL db, so just some control to update that .mpg file name though frontend would be all it takes.

Should probably post this over at Gossamer boards rather than here. Spouting off ideas really.

I believe the dummy tuner thread was how to create one in vmware.
