Post subject:  dvd drive on diskless frontend (update)

I have set up a couple of diskless frontends in my house and everything seems to be working fine.........but I can't seem to play DVD's in my frontend..... I can play ISO dvds from the backend and everything else..... can can play DVD's on my backend just not on the frontend...... I have it set to be /dev/dvd .......for diskless should I have it set to something else.......

any help would be great......

The message flashs up on the screen so fast I can't see it is there a log file I can get to see the message.

I don't think my CD is working either because I have tried to import a Music CD and it just sits there and nothing happens.

Not sure how you set up your diskless clients, but there should be a /dev/dvd entry of course for this to work. Do you have a shell on your diskless client? Then you can check this. Another reason might be that /dev/dvd is pointing to /dev/hdc and since you don't have a harddisk, the DVD drive is perhaps /dev/hda?

I tested that idea and is not it. If I do a mount /dev/hdc /mnt/dvd and then cd into /mnt/dev I can see the video file. So it would seem that the system is seeing the DVD has hdc.

Oh I created the diskless frontend by useing the knoppmyth_diskless_frontend.bash under /usr/local/bin that Gregg created.

I thought that was the answer. Thank for the idea. Any other thoughts.

Thanks again.
