I'm sorry if this is an old question but I could not find any info after searching the wiki and here.
Is there a way to stop Myth from auto recording shows? This morning I had 12 episodes of good old "Paid Program" I don't really want to have to delete them or sift through them to get to the programs I do want. it also seems like this would be tough on the hard drive over time.

Any thoughts?

BTW, I'm running R5D1

Are you just leaving it on live TV instead of scheduling the recordings you want? That's really not how it's intended to be used...

You can make the auto expiration of live recordings more agressive, but it would make a lot more sense to just schedule recordings of the things you want.

I didn't think I left it on watch tv but it's possible. I looked today and it has not recorded any shows except those I have added to my schedule.

So it archives any show that I watch live? Is there any way to keep it from doing that? The whole myth tv scene is new to me, I am a recovering Tivo user.

Thanks for your help.

Don't walk away with live tv running, click back and leave it idling at the 'menu'...

I just set autoexpire on livetv to 1 day. There is a post somewhere on how to set up autoexpire to clean up livetv. You might search for it.

You can also set it so that LiveTV programs are not shown in the recordings view. It is an option in the setup (I forget where, but the option name is obvious).

Yes to the first, no to the second. However it "does the right thing" as far as expiring them quickly and recovering space at need. The Tivo does essentially the same thing, it just hides the mechanics from you. In MythTV all "recordings" (you've got to record it somewhere so you can pause and skip back and forth in live TV right?) are treated uniformly and using the same mechanisms. On top of that, you're actually given control over those mechanisms so you can tweak them.

As snaproll says, when you walk away from it (and don't want it to grab what's on so you can come back later), exit the live TV session. This also gives your hard disk some rest. I find that my GUI is most often left in the "Media Library" menu on the "Watch Recordings" item. For your disks sake you also don't want it playing the previews continuously...
