I updated mplayer so I could play 720p movies, well it runs fine for the first liek 2 minutes, then the audio goeso ut of sync or it will lag every once in a while. I thought this was cpu problem so I upgrade from an Athlon XP 1400 to an athlon xp 1800 which runs 1.7GHZ and the problem persists

The specs are

1.7Gig
768megs of SDRAM
Asus A7S333 motherboard
1.2 terabytes on IDE Drives

Could this be a problem with mythtv? the specs? or the perhaps the IDE drives?

A friend said he ran 720p movies with the same cpu in both windows and linux, so im not sure whats going on.

I would be really quite suprised to see that chip do HD decoding.

I'm hoping my XP2500 might just do it, but it's going to be borderline (and I don't really want to overclock it)
