You _really_ shouldn't be having a problem with that much horsepower... - Check to make sure that the DMA setting on the DVD drive is sticking. - Make sure that you're using the nvidia driver with it's hardware Xv support rather than the nv or svga or fbdev driver. - Check which program you're using for DVD playback. The "internal player" isn't ready fro prime time IMO, and you're much better off with xine or mplayer. - What process(es) is(are) using all the CPU? |

Hiya, It looked like X was using 80% of the CPU and I was using XINE |

How about the other stuff? - Use the hdparm command to query the current settings. Make sure it's not silently ignoring the DMA setting. - See the http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... ngLogFiles for how to see waht is in your X logs and what to look for. |

Ahh...I was assuming that since I was getting TV output via the nvidia component cables that I was using the nvidia driver..stupid me...the listed driver in the config file was "vesa"I imagine copying the nvidia tvout sample to config-4 will break X without some tweaking..thx for the help..Oh..last time I checked using the latest nvidia drivers was kinda iffy... can u suggest a stable version? |

Which ones are iffy for what? There are some issues with doing particular things with certain ranges of drivers but nothing that can't be dealt with. For SDTV I'm currently using 1.0-8774 without any problems. Basically the ones that come with your current release should be fine. |
