Post subject:  Launching Myth TV viewer from command line -- Help please

Hi all,

This is sort of a newbie question, but for a good programmatic cause. What is the command line equivalent to selecting "Watch TV" from the main menu?

Essentially, I have constructed a guide-assistant as an external application (Java AWT application, if you must know) and need to know how to open up the default Myth television player on a channel that I will provide as an argument passed in the command line. Currently, my little application is now its own menu item from the main menu (I successfully modified the mainmenu.xml file in /usr/share/mythtv), so I don't need any help with that part, although I would happily answer any questions others may have.

I want to continue to use the default player (whatever is normally called from the "Watch TV" menu item (xine, myplayer, whatever)) because I still want to maintain the ability to view the guide, change channels, schedule recordings, etc. I just basically want to get to watching TV from something other than the "Watch TV" menu.

Thanks!

Chris

I know running
Code:
mythtv
from the command line will start the TV. I'm not sure if it will take an argument for the channel.

You could use the telnet interface to control it. That allows you to change channels, view the guide, etc.

Hope that helps.
