In trying to solve a problem with my NFS share I changed the user id of user mythtv from 105 to 1001. Added a group called 1001 and added user mythtv to that group. Everything went to heck.

I have no more audio, you can't watch live TV, recorded TV plays without sound, and trying to listen to music doesn't even manage to play the files.

So, I changed mythtv's uid back to 105. Doesn't fix anything. I rebooted. No luck. I installed kuser to have an easy way to modify user properties and add them to groups, but even adding mythtv to all the groups I thought that user might need to be in, solves nothing.

HELP! I used to have a fairly trouble-free myth box and with one tiny change almost everything has gone south. Thanks for any tips.

Brian

Solution:
edit /etc/groups as root
Add mythtv to every group you think might matter. I did audio, cdrom, users, video (maybe others)
Reboot

For some reason kuser was not working properly, even when ran as root.

cdrom:*:24:mythtv,myth2,www-data
audio:!:29:mythtv,myth2
video:!:44:mythtv,myth2
mythtv:x:105:
slocate:!:107:mythtv

Is this a typo? Do you want to edit
Code:
/etc/group
instead? (singular, versus plural)
