I have configured my box to use WOL so that I can conserve power when not required. This works very well, except that before a back-end shutdown is authorised, it appears to need to update its program database. This took all night once (although there was a database problem I descovered in mysql.err).

In the setup screens, I have disabled automatic update, but it seems to ignore this setting. I wondered if it is related to the machine being booted when required, sometimes several times a day?

I am running Dragon hardware with a R5A30.2 version.

Any help would be appreciated.

Algenon.

No, you can run it less frequently, just so long as you''ve got the info you need to schedule. On the flip side, some channels have a lot of last minute schedule changes and corrections. It all depends on what you're recording.

Thanks tjc, but how do I control the frequency of update if the settings in the setup page are ignored? Is this a bug, or is it scheduled elsewhere?

Algenon.

How old is your KnoppMyth? (hint: cat /etc/KnoppMyth-version)

There used to be a cron entry in older versions which you had to remove. Let me see if I can find you the directions... Ah, here's my original write up and a recent resdiscovery...
