I recently re-installed and went to R5E50. I use xine for DVD playback as well as playing DVD .iso images. Last night I noticed that the audio in xine was lagging by about half a second. I have xine set to passthrough audio to my Dolby Digital receiver however I have tried setting the audio to 2.0 channel and it lags as well. I have tried both DVD discs as well as playing from an .iso image and both lag. I then tried using MythTV's internal player for DVD's and the audio was in sync however it did not work in Dolby Digital and the Video was a bit jumpy so this is not an effective solution. I have also tried playing with the settings in alsamixer but nothing there helped either. I also tried disabling and enabling the AC3 passthrough in myth setup but that didn't seem to change anything. I did find that you can use the "N" and "M" keys to control audio offset in xine but they didn't have any effect. They did produce an on screen display but the audio offset did not change at all even when set to more than 2 seconds. I've pretty much run out of ideas so I thought I'd throw it out to the collective Knoppmyth mind and see if anyone can help. Thanks, Martian |

Sorry for the double post. After further investigation it appears that most or ALL audio lags by a fairly significant amount (no I don't have any BTTV cards). Any help in resolving this would be greatly appreciated. I'm pretty much dead in the water at this point. Watching anything is so painful do to the audio lag. Martian |

Go into the xine setup menus (this requires a mouse & keyboard) and dial the config mode up to expert. The available configuration options are leveled, and at the default level you may not be able to adjust things like audio sync. My first guess is that you want to adjust "synchronization.passthrough_offset". You can also edit these directly in the configuration file... /home/mythtv/.xine/config |

/bows Once again tjc, you have set me straight. I've no idea why the audio was suddenly so far off (it never has been before) but at least for DVDs I was able to correct it. I know you can adjust audio offset on a per program basis through the menu in the internal player but is there a setting to configure a global offset? Sorry if this has been already answered. Not that I'm aware of. I went looking last time this came up and couldn't find anything. Your best bet would be to search for "audio" or "sound" "sync" in the mythtv mailing lists to see if you can find anything. |
