Post subject:  missing final newline error

I'm getting this error when trying to install:

(Reading database ... dpkg: error processing tzdata_2007b-1_all.deb (--install):
files list file for package `xlibs-data' is missing final newline
Errors were encountered while processing:
tzdata_2007b-1_all.deb
Processing was halted because there were too many errors.

I'm a noob, so not really sure what this even means...

Thanks in advance.

I haven't seen that error before... I might be backing up the wrong tree here but since you are a new to LINUX user, I'm wondering if you did that command as the mythtv user or as the root user? Remember when you see a guide in here or else where, 99 % of the time, when commands are written with a $ preceding them you can run them from a normal user. When they have a # preceding them you must su to root and run them as the root user.

Let us know.

Sounds like you got a bad download ("`xlibs-data' is missing final newline"). I just performed this on my 3 KM boxen about 1/2 hour ago with no problem, if I were you I would try the process again (as root, as graysky mentioned).

This was SOOO much easier than the Exchange system I had to update at work. It went great. Thanks.

Post subject:  still getting error

Appreciate the help- still getting error-

Yep, running as root, both locally and SSH'ing in from remote. No luck.

Redownloaded file (took me awhile to figure out how to get my proxy to stop giving me the same one).

Still getting error.

Any other ideas? Times-a-ticking...

Post subject:  problem solved (hopefully)

Fixed, hopefully... In case someone else has the same problem:

edited file /var/lib/dpkg/status - removing xlibs-data section.

Running install then worked.

zdump now shows correct dates.

Please, if this is a horrible fix, please post!

Thanks for the help!

Updating tzdata worked great, the time on my MythTV box automatically advanced one hour today per the new DST schedule. However, the DataDirect program guide data was all off by 1 hour following the time change. A standard "mythfilldatabase" run did not fix it, I had to force an EPG refresh using the following command, in case anyone else has the same problem:

Code:
mythfilldatabase --refresh-today --verbose 1

Post subject:  Re: Howto: fix daylight savings time in pre-R5E50 systems

I ran these instructions on a combined back-end / front-end system (R5D1) and it fixed the time setting perfectly. What I found after running the fix is that the program schedule was off by an hour. In order to fix that issue, refresh the listing data with:

Code:
mythfilldatabase --refresh-all
