Is there a config file for this? I would like to add and maybe change some of the existing Myth menus. I was considering installing some dvd ripping-writing app that I found. And was curious about adding it (if it works) to the standard myth menu. |

I thought I looked long and hard to get an answer. Then I looked again. this is what I found from Gossamer Look in <prefix>/share/mythtv/mainmenu.xml, where <prefix> is probably either /usr/local or /usr according to whether you built from sources or installed a package. The action line for executing a script would be <action>EXEC myscript</action> ![]() |

well as far as changing the menu it is an XML file somewhere, sorry to be vague, but can't remember right now, but it has been discussed in the forums before, so a search should find it for you. On another note what DVD writing app are you thinking about using? and mythdvd will do rip. |

I was looking into dvd::rip (video-dvdrip). Although I think I am going to put more efforts into what Knoppmyth already has. Too many dependancies/broken pipes/errors. I was looking for a DVD clone application and I was unsuccessful/unfamiliar with myth. |

well there is not a clone program that I know of. the only video dvd software I now of for linux is dvdauthor, and it is command line. The dvd rip portion of myth should work just fine. You cannot rip encrypted dvd's unless you install decss which doesn't come with knoppmyth for legal reasons, but if you are in a place where it is legal a few searches should lead you to how to install it very easily. |

dvdrip seemed to be able to rip and write exact duplicates, and even to resize the 8.5 gig to fit on 4.5. Here is a link; http://www.icewalkers.com/Linux/Softwar ... ::rip.html Not that it matters, I couldn't get it to work. The dependancies are extensive. Which is probably why I could not get it to work with 'apt-get install video-dvdrip'. I realize that copying and distribution of copyrighted material is illegal. The purpose of this is I am attempting to backup my DVD collection. For the benefit of this discussion I would appreciate it if there were no flames regarding this. |

It wasn't a flame, just an explanation of why this functionality isn't included in knoppmyth by default. And actually under the DMCA in the US it is not the fact that it is copyrighted that is the problem it is the fact that you have to circomvent the copyright protection. |

So basically, it is ok to copy copywritten material that one owns as a backup? But it is not ok to circumvent or find a way around the encryption or methods that would otherwise prevent copying? Thats interesting. I did not know that. I did a search that explains a little more. http://www.cdfreaks.com/news2.php?ID=9130 Sorry, this a bit off topic from my origional post. |
