Dunno if I'm just tired and screwed up my X11 conf file, but I can't get X to start properly now! Managed to install the drivers correctly, which is at least a step forward compared to my last attempt ![]() ![]() This is the specific error, have searched but have not uncovered my answer yet: mythbox init: Id "c7" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes No errors in the Xorg.0.log file My xorg.conf: Code: # nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig

Post subject: | got the same message |
I got the same message during my nvida upgrade process in R5E50. I was following this thread: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... highlight= and after the nvidia driver scirpt finished and I rebooted, I started getting the "INIT: id "c7" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes. " message. I was so scared that I had hosed my system up. In a panic, I went back to the thread and found my solution near the bottom of page 1. MrFahrenheit posted that he had to run the following commands: update-rc.d -f install-nvidia-debian remove update-rc.d -f nvidia-glx remove update-rc.d -f nvidia-kernel remove and then re-run the nvidia driver script. After a reboot, all worked. I hope it works for you too! |

Unfortunately I am still getting the same problem. I'm pretty sure I have screwed up my Xorg.conf file. Even though I backed it up, i think it all got lost in the translation and I may have overwritten the backup ![]() |

![]() Try 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg' to create a new one. It's what I'd do. Mike |

![]() OK. What video card do you have, and what monitor do you have? Mike |

Mike Thankyou very much Mike! ![]() I managed, about 5 minutes before your post to get that working, but it is much appreciated all the same! Several problems, including a PEBKAC error! I did a search for the nvidia modules, weren't loaded. So "modprobe nvidia" then the devices weren't present. running nvidia-kernel solved that. Still couldn't start X... Some idiot forgot to rename startx.save back to startx! So renamed startx, added nvidia to /etc/modules and hey presto, back up and running! Even better then before! Thanks once again for all contributions! |
