I did an install from the Knoppix CD, knoppmyth and am using a Hauppauge PVR-350 for video output. I would like to make VHS tapes from the 350's output without any of the GUI stuff ending up on the tape. The only thing I want to see out of the 350 is my mpeg2 video or black when the video is not playing. I would like to control it using X running on a seperate VGA monitor. What I need is GUI on the VGA and nothing but TV, as in no OSD, no X windows, etc. on the 350's output. Has anyone done this and how do I do it? Thanks |

I solved my own problem. I installed from R5E50. What I wanted was just plain old video playback on the pvr-350 output, no GUI, only GUI showing on the VGA monitor. What I did was very simple. I went through the setup as though I was setting up a 350, answering "y" when prompted for "I found a PVR-350, do you want to set it up..", then copied .xorg.conf to xorg.conf, replacing the newly configured xorg.conf with the default xorg.conf. It's kept "hidden" as .xorg.conf I did this exactly: cd /etc/X11 cp .xorg.conf xorg.conf It overwrites the symlink pointing to xorg.conf.350, so you'll still have that file if you want it. |
