Observations ========= I followed the instructions: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... gradeHowTo I performed this on my test HDD and would like to perform this on my production HDD. 1) Upgrade wiped hda1. I did not lose any videos or music :) 2) Performed backup before upgrading per instructions 3) A voice (recording) let me know that the restoration failed. :( 4) I was prompted to put in the NIC card's IP info. 5) Had to reassign 'Videos Source' to the tuners. 6) Had to restart samba server & configure for startup 7) VNC works like a champ. 8) Keep getting message: Could not connect to the master backend server -- is it running? Is the IP address set for it in the setup program correct. I used pgrep -fl backend to verify that the back end is running. I switched the IP address in the setup program from 127.0.0.1 to 192.168.2.20. Rebooted system and this problem disappeared. Questions ======= Do I need to be concerned that the restoration failed? Is there a mechanism to prompt the system to rescan the music and video files to update the database? Would I be better off just performing a fresh install on my production HDD? I ask this because usually a fresh install is better than a patched system. Kudos ===== Version F has 'Internet Streams' and a leaner menu. |

There is a minor issue a number of folks are having with /home/mythtv/.democracy this is apparently because rather than being a real directory it's a symbolic link to the /myth/democracy directory. Check the restore logfile as described in the R5F1 hints and hazards sticky posting. If the only differences shown are that directory you can ignore them. Hopefully I'll be able to send a LivePatch.sh fix for this to Cecil sometime this weekend. The delayed backend restart issue is also described there. You can find the menu entries rescan the video and music directories under the Utilities/Setup menu. |
