Mythfrotent / backend on different pc's with Mythvideo

Post subject:  Mythfrotent / backend on different pc's with Mythvideo
Hi there I have a question, I have mythfrontend and the backend on different pc's. watching tv, shared recodings, scheduleing things works great...but I have a question. I recently discovered the joy of mythvideo. My frontend on my seperate machine and can see imdb data, but not the mythvideo directory. I suspect it is because the mythvideo data, is not actually configured via mythsetup, like the backend channel information is, videos and recoding are...so my question is, how does my mythfrontend upstairs, see my mythvidoes, stored on my backend server downstairs...on the local directory..how are others configuring this...is there something I am missing? the videos for mythvideo are in a seperate directory on the backend, and in the xvid format. I just want to be clear I am not talking about my recoded shows via my mythbackend, I am talking about my divx/xvid movies that are stored and cataloged in a seperate directory on my mythbackend.

Cool, I was thinking thats what other people were doing, I just wanted to make sure I wasn;t missing any special features in myth, and was doing it the right way. PS - Can it see your poesters via the database, or do I have to share that directory too? It seems as though it see's those...possibly, mind you, maybe its just seeing the metatag data.

Posters? You mean the video posters you get when you download the data from IMDB? Yes, if you set that path to an NFS mount as well. Be sure to go through the Utilities/Setup -> Setup -> Media Settings and set your Video/Music/Pictures paths to the appropriate locations.

Just to be clear: All your media resides on one box, you NFS mount the directory (eg. /myth) that holds all your media onto your frontends. If you have any trouble just shout...

EDIT: Hope I didn't mislead you. You can NFS mount multiple directories from multiple systems, but for now let's assume your all your media resides on 1 system /EDIT

You are correct sir! Absolutely, you understood me perfectly, all my data is on one PC/mythbackend. So I will NFS share my data from there, and then point to the NFS share from the front end...correct?

Just out of curiosity, the TV data that I am getting, IE: recoded tv, live stremed tv etc..is that what myth is sharing by default via NFS? Is NFS what is being used to read that data? I imagine it is.

Yep, that's the general idea. With a little playing you'll get the idea...

To my knowledge all LiveTV and recordings are transported via the MythTV IP transport (service) that runs on port 6543 by default. It is not a shared resource, but a network streamed one.
