Post subject:  Digital audio

I have spdif working in xine, but i cannot get any sound in TV or Music.

I care more about the music working than the TV...

My settings in setup/general are

Audio Output Device: /dev/adsp

Passthrough: ALSA:iec958:{ AES0 0x02 }

AC3 spdif passthrough enabled
DTS spdif passthrough enabled
Use Internal volume controls Enabled

When I goto music it plays, but there is no sound. Right now in Music settings General, it is set to use /dev/dsp but if I change it to dec/adsp it seems to just hang and play nothing.

something to change?

Thanks, I read that post and tons of others that don't seem to point to R5F1 yet.

I have an nforce2 chipset using aplay -l I get:

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: nForce2 [NVidia nForce2], device 0: Intel ICH [NVidia nForce2]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: nForce2 [NVidia nForce2], device 2: Intel ICH - IEC958 [NVidia nForce2 - IEC958]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I have tried almost everything in all those posts. lol. Only to find out that changing to /dev/adsp (which is one of the defaults listed in the dropdown) cause spdif to work after a reboot.

LOL,

There was one thing I did not try cause I was afraid to bork things up.

In the Digital HowTo:

Changing /dev/adsp

You may not want to use ALSA:hw:0,2 directly. You can change the /dev/adsp to point to something other than hw0,1 by editing /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base and adding the following line:

options snd-pcm-oss adsp_map=2

Then from the command line:

update-modules
depmod -a

Followed by a reboot. /dev/adsp will now point to hw:0,2.

this fixed both TV and Music sound to work.
