Post subject:  Waking Up MythBox via Internet (is this possible?)

Hey everyone, I am interested to know if it is possible to wake up the mythbox through the internet. So just asking for some ideas.

As I understand, there are ways to implement 'Wake On LAN' (WOL) through a router, as shown here http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Wake_On_LAN_Router.

Here, a router is used as a small monitoring 'computer' to determine when to wake the MythBox up to record.

I figured, if the 'magic packet' to wake up the box can be passed by the router through a cronjob, is there any way I can use this scheme to wake the box up via internet?

Why would I want to do this?
I'd like to keep the MythBox off as much as possible, when not recording, to conserve energy. But I thought it would be cool to use the box as a streaming audio/video server over the internet using some current plugins. Of course though, if the computer is off, I can't access it remotely through the internet.

But what if I can access my always-on router through the internet via SSH. And then through SSH, manually send that 'magic packet' to wake the MythBox so I can access the server to watch TV shows remotely.

Has this been done? Is this possible? Is there a better way of waking through the internet?

Thanks

That looks like a great tool to play around with.
Thanks! I'll try it once I finish getting knoppmyth loaded. (baby steps)
