I'm new to Knoppmyth and have limited experience with Linux. I have R5F1 installed and running but need some help getting around. My system makeup is: Intel 915xx motherboard, 3.4m processor, 1g ram, 6600 nVidio, 512g IDE and 250g SAT. HDs, PVR350 and pcHDTV3000 tuners. 1. Can I run my Sys monitor and a TV at the same time and How? Both tuners have s-vidio and the 6600 has s-vidio. I can only get TV on one or the other but not both. How do I turn the s-vidio on for the TV without killing the monitor. 2. Can I run a Linux GUI for Maint. of the Linux OS and how? I can get a command line interface but don't know how to start the Gnome of KDE GUI. Thanks for any help. Richard |

This is a road well traveled. It is just matter of having the right X config. 1) Setup your system so that it works with the monitor and TV alone and save the X config from each. Do a google search on "dual monitor support linux" or "dual head linux" to figure out how to merge the relevent sections from the two X config files. It may take few days of tinkering and asking questions, but I am sure you can figure it out. 2) Once you get dual head working, this is fairly trivial. m |

Thanks for the tip. I'm not as comfortable with the Linux Command Line as with the GUI. I can't remember how to bring up Gnome or KDE. CTL ALT F1-F6 just give me a command line. None give me a GUI. Seems like I have to change mode to 5 or something like that. Any help? Also, Ref: my original post - I had to re-install to switch between TV and Monitor. Is there a way to switch from within Knoppmyth/Linux? Thanks, Richard |

If you exit from the front end, you end up with a lightweight GUI (fluxbox), if you right click on the desktop you should see a menu of selectable applications. Bruce S. |
