I got a zip file full of bios's but which one do i use? Whats the difference? Im kinda thinking its region based. I live in the US.

i like knoppmyth and mythtv and since it plays cds dvds snes and nes games as well as mame, i wanted it to play playstation games it does evrything else, so i installed epsxe got it from http://www.epsxe.com a nice little emulator works on windows and linux theres not much to installing it just extract the files where u want and run the epsxe file in the dir, in order for sound and video u need the plugins which can be found here http://www.ngemu.com/psx/plugins.php?cat=1&os=linux i use the Eternal SPU v1.41 plugin for sound and the Pete's MesaGL Plugin v1.75 plugin for video useing these two may or may not work for you but its what i used all u do to install them is copy the .so files to the plugin directory and the rest to the cfg dir, you may also want to get and install one of the input plugins that they have listed there if u plan on useing a controler u will need a playstation bios bin file inorder to play any games because most sites wount tell u where to get it just that u need it, i dont want to post where to find it and there be problems cause of that the file im useing is called Scph1001.bin so you can maby find it that way now that thats installed, u can play it but u hafta exit mythtv and open a terminal to run it so i asked cesman how i could add it to a menu he said all you hafta to do is add another line to the /usr/share/mythtv/gamelist.xml file i added this <game> <name>Epsxe</name> <command>/home/mythtv/epsxe/./epsxe</command> <genre>Playstation Emulator</genre> <year>2002</year> </game> just add it in to that file and after go into mythtv settings game settings and do a search for games for it to update the listing of what it shows if its not working check your permissions well i hope this guide was helpful for any one thats intrested enjoy |

the emulator is compleatly legal, just the bios is one of those gray areas, if u look at epsxe's site and other psx emulation they are legal cause they dont offer bios files the idea is that u have a playstation and rip the bios off of it to play the games that way the bios is legit, but hosting and posting copys of the bios isnt legal cause of copyrights so unless some one is asking or posting bios files then its fine |

just a update so it just loads the game like snes games just change <command>/home/mythtv/epsxe/./epsxe</command> to <command>/home/mythtv/epsxe/./epsxe -nogui</command> that way it skips the gui and starts loading the cd also if u have a cdimg file and u want it to just automaticly load that put <command>/home/mythtv/epsxe/./epsxe -loadiso (immagfile)</command> no () and works with CloneCD/Cdrwin images |
