Another option for networking is Ethernet over power lines, using two of these you can get about 84Mbps over power lines in your house.

Theres a number of tricks to wiring in cat5 easily.

1. use cupboards. poke a hole in the ceiling right at the front of the cupboard where nobody will ever see it. drop the cable down there, and run it along the floor to wherever it has to go

2. you only need 2 of the 4 pairs for 100mbit, 2 3mm holes in a floor and you can poke up a pair through each hole, then terminate.

I have used the above in all of the rental places i have been in, and never had any trouble with landlords on exiting.

My current place I have blue cable running across a hallway to get to my frontend. It looks messy, but it is WELL worth it for the extra speed to my frontned :)

Interesting ideas soundoff. I think I might be able to get a line to the frontend through closets. I have been able to get the frontend working with wireless, thanks to all the help I have received here but its not as reliable as I would like. I am also considering the router to router idea, but if I can stay away from wireless I will.
