| Post subject: | mounting and umounting usb flash drives? |
i don't completely understand the mounting and umounting thing. in mythtv frontend, if i stick in a usb flash drive, myth opens up the mythgallery menu as it would if i stuck in a dvd containing .avi files. i can play the files from there.. and if i open an xterm, im able to cp the files from /media/usbdisk to /myth/video and play them from the mythtv frontend. so i presume this means that mythtv mounts the usb disk for me? do i need to unmount it before i take it out? given that i only copied files from the usb drive to hda? i unmounted it via xterm by typing umount /media/usbdisk as root. it seemed to work, do i need to do that before i take it out?.. or is it unnecessary I didn't unmount it previously adn it continiously crashed my lilo conf. The box wouldnt boot after that. and jsut asked me for a system disk. I couldn't work out how to mount to bootloader (as i presumed this was the problem) so i reformatted and reinstalled. . could not unmounting the usbdisk be the cause of my lilo problems? |
