I tried mounting a NTFS USB HDD with the command:

Code:
root@mythtvhost:~# mount -t ntfs /dev/sda1 /myth/300

mythtvhost:~$ cat /proc/partitions
major minor  #blocks  name

   3     0  199148544 hda
   3     1    4891761 hda1
   3     2    1959930 hda2
   3     3  192290017 hda3
   8     0  312571224 sda
   8     1  312568641 sda1

My putty session hangs and I can not initiate another SSH session. Has anyone been able to mount an NTFS USB HDD?

Try ntfs-3g instead of ntfs in your mount command.
