Post subject: | Fluxbox going away when TV is off |
I am having a problem where over night or for any significant amount of time if the TV is off fluxbox stops running. Or at least I assume thats what is happening. When I kill off the x-window-manager process for user mythtv the window respawns and everything appears to work perfectly. I can watch TV for hour, watch movies, whatever. I turn off my TV and come back later and the TV is not getting a signal of any kind. I have "video 7" sitting on screen which lets me know it's not receiving any kind of signal. I am not sure where I should be looking for the cause. I checked all the obvious logs, I have turned off DPMS, and edited fluxbox's startup script to include xset -dpms, and xset s off. The following is in my .xsession-errors log and led me to believe there may be a permission issue somewhere I am missing: Failed to read: session.screen0.overlay.capStyle Setting default value Failed Here is a copy of my xorg.conf as well. I have tried monkeying with this file quite a bit. If anyone recognizes a problem with it please let me know. I have connected my knoppmyth box to the TV via dvi to HDMI cable. My TV is a Sony 55" EDID 1f8. It might be useful to post your full hardware spec ![]() You could try changing Code: Driver "fglrx" to Code: Driver "radeon"
in xorg.conf to see if its a problem with the ati driver? |

I am running a P4 2.4 Ghz, 1G of RAM, Radeon 9600 XT, Hauppauge PVR-500 I'll try switching to Radeon this evening and see if it helps. |

Whats odd is that all the processes seem to be working, i.e. mythbackend, mysql, mythfrontend, even my xsession is still running. No errors are being reported in the Xorg.log.0 file. Upon testing, even switching the input on the TV with the "TV/video" button to switch to another source will cause the display of Knoppmyth to turn off. |

Could it actually be a problem with the TV? do you have any other hdmi devices you can test, or try plugging the PC into a different hdmi port? |

There is only 1 HDMI port and I don't have another HDMI device, though I could connect the system to a standard LCD monitor, shut it off and then turn it back on and see if I see the same behavior. ATM killing off the xsession causes it to respawn and my display comes back. Annoying for the wife though. |

I checked the connnection to an LCD monitor and it still turns off on the LCD. So same problem. |

Tried using the "radeon" also. The X display won't even come up with that set. |

I did just notice something in my logs I hope will help someone find a solution for me. The instant the display goes dark I see the following in my logs: Sep 14 20:27:57 mythtv gconfd (mythtv-18872): GConf server is not in use, shutting down. Sep 14 20:27:57 mythtv gconfd (mythtv-18872): Exiting Any ideas? |

Any ideas? Cecil? I have tried everything I can think of and I can't help but think it must be something simple I am missing. The Gconf server shutting down doesn't seem to have anything to do with it. The symptoms I have is that the video from the Knoppmyth box stops shortly after the system no longer detects a viable monitor attached to the DVI out on the video card. Killing off the x-window-manager process causes X to respawn and I my display comes back up. I am at a loss. |

Solved: It was the ati driver that I had installed with fglrx. It loaded the latest driver. Once I realized I had some debian packages that contained the driver, I removed those and the system then picked up an install of some older drivers I installed from ATI. The display no longer goes blank when I power off the TV or change video inputs. |
