I'm trying to adjust nvidia-settings while using tvout (composite rca connector) on an FX5200. The problem is that the gui interface is just too small and blurry on the tv screen.

If I ssh in from a different computer and execute nvidia-settings I get the error:
Code:
The application 'nvidia-settings' lost its connection to the display localhost:10.0;
most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed
the application.

If I su then run it I get
Code:
Xlib: connection to "localhost:10.0" refused by server
Xlib: PuTTY X11 proxy: wrong authentication protocol attempted

(nvidia-settings:11688): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

If i disconnect the TV and connect a vga monitor and restart x, then I get the display on the monitor and I can read the nvidia-settings gui but the nvidia driver knows that a monitor is now connected and not a tv and the setting options are all different.

How do I get to set the settings for TVout and still be able to read them?

vnc into the box then back out of mythtv to the couch scene. Right click and open up an xterm.

Thanks mythedoff! I didn't know what VNC was, but searching the forums returned tjc's Hints page and from there it was a piece of cake! Works slick!
