So what's stopping you? Feel free to have a go.

I'm happy with SD. It's cheap, it's reliable, and it's honest.
Scraping web pages is cheap. It's definitely not reliable, and
it's questionable whether it's honest or not. I'm betting that
even working an Burger King it would take fewer hours to earn
enough money to pay for SD for the rest of your life than it
would take to write and maintain a web-scraper.

Either that or go back to the old VCR days.

Again, what's stopping you? Go ahead. Send me a postpaid box,
and I'll send you a half-dozen old blank VHS cassettes I don't
need anymore.

hmm, I have to wonder what we did in the old days for Schedule data to record in those Old VCR tapes. Oh wait we checked the program guide or web sources or whatever was free.

Hey come to think of it , you have manual record mode on that Slick PVR, you can run it like a VCR just have to remember to check as far out as you want programming and can find it. Then run manual schedules.

Only difference with that is now you don't develop that stack in the corner of aging tapes that eventually must be tossed in the landfill.

I agree with a lot of folks here. I didn't build a PVR because it was Cheaper, or I could get it for FREE. I built it for the slick conviences and not having to shuffle my tapes around for the latest episode of whatever and it was miles above any problematic solution I could Rent commercially.

I missed the VCR comment first time I read it, but for the last month I've had to manually program my mythtv box like a VCR because the Aussie grabber I used broke and I haven't had time to fix it.
There is nothing stopping you creating manual schedules. Its still better than a vcr though, getting rid of tapes was the main goal of my mythtv setup.

Really? My script works very well, and comes with 5.5. Additionally, I have written clear instructions on how to use it.

Why don't you use it?

Mike

P.S. You could also use the OTA guide: It's quite good these days.

One of the fixes I haven't had time to try yet is upgrading to 5.5. I did try redownloading the script from http://www.better-access.com/KM/tv_grab_au_reg but I keep getting a perl error when I run it.
Thank you for creating your script, your efforts are much appreciated. I didn't mean to criticise it, but wanted to point out that the aussie grabbers have broken at times due to changes outside of their authors control.
There is a tradeoff in using a free scraper compared to a service like SchedulesDirect.

Hi again,

That's not my script. Mine is at http://www.better-access.com/KM/tv_grab_au

The one you have downloaded is Will Uther's old version from last year. Check out the directory contents listing and you'll see more information.

It's still odd that you got a Perl error, too. Will's script doesn't use Perl at all.

Mike

I picked up an old Sony Tivo series 1 from a pawn shop for $20. It lets you manually record shows without paying for subscriptions. Several of the early Tivo 1 series will let you do this but you still need a phone line to get time updates.

Even this is cheaper than building a Myth Box. Of course you have none of the features that I want and get from KM. I'm more than willing to pay for Schedules Direct.

Tivo has said they will support HD converter boxes so you can use them after February here in the States.

How's that for cheap?

Thanks Mike that fixed it. My box had been offline for ages thanks to a dodgy router, and the grabber wasn't working when it got back online so I tried using the LivePatcher script to update it. Obviously now that one was out of date and was never going to work.
Sorry to everyone else for the last couple of offtopic posts.
