Post subject:  Can't shutdown/reboot diskless frontend from menu

Using Greg Frost's diskless-legacy package (which is great, BTW), I've set up a diskless* frontend in another room. Things are working well so far, however, I've noticed that I cannot shutdown or reboot the frontend from the MythTV menu (the one you get by pressing "m").

I looked at the frontend log and I notice that whenever I try to shutdown from that menu, I get the following errors:
Code:
chvt: VT_ACTIVATE: Operation not permitted
init: fatal: unable to create /etc/runit/stopit: access denied

The first one indicates an error switching to a virtual terminal, and the second I'm guessing is some kind of permissions error? Both shutdown and reboot work from this menu on my combined MBE/FE, and the ownership and permissions of all files in the /etc/runit directory are identical on both machines. Also, the mythtv users on both machines have the same UID.

Any thoughts?

* Well it was supposed to be diskless, but it turns out that the network card doesn't have a PXE boot rom... solution is to boot gPXE using a floppy disk! I actually stuck the whole floppy drive inside the machine so it won't accidentally get ejected or otherwise messed up.

In the mythtv setup general options somewhere the commands for reboot and shutdown are specified. Make sure they say
"sudo /sbin/reboot" and "sudo /sbin/halt" instead of just reboot and halt.

Thanks, that did the trick.
