Hi,

I've got a MythBox with a single PVR-250. Let's say that a channel is running a marathon of one of my favority shows and I'd like to record each episode?

I've got a setting to start recording a given show 90 seconds before and after . This would not work out for one of the two recording, I guess that the current recording always has priority.

Is there any way that during the (180 seconds) overlap between the shows that I'd like the record (on the same channel), the stream could be written to the two relavent files? If not, then what are people doing in such cases?

Adrian

In the advance recording options screen you can select a different value of start early/end late than for the default. Unless your intent is to archive them I'd just set this recording profile to 0 for both and watch extra bits from the beginning/end of the neighboring recodings. Short of having a second tuner card I don't know of any way to do what you're asking...

Some channels are better about having their marathons start on the hour than others. Aligning you system clock with your most common recording sources helps for those. Other channels like Cartoon Network, tend to drift over the course of a night, so that by 4AM or so the shows are starting up to a couple minutes early. Happily they almost never end late...

As an alternative to seprate recordings for each episode of a 'marathon' showing, you could do a single recording over the entire window of the marathon. You would end up with a rather large file, but it would contain all of the show for you.

You could then use another tool to custom split the file at the separation of each episode. Options such as avidemux, cinelerra, LiVES, are out there, I am not sure of which would be easiest to use. You could then use the output of the splits in your own archival DVDs, or convert them to dvix, and store them as videos.

The same is true for recording a series of movies.

One thing to take into consideration for movies is that there is usually a window of four or five min between each movie. On the other hand I like to watch the Andromeda series re-runs that Sci-Fi is running on Tuesdays, with four episodes in a row. It is not at all unusual to see the closing publisher frames butted right up to the begining of the next episode.

At some point you may want to take into account the time you are taking for each episode, to see if the time you are spending editing is costing you more than the cost of a second pvr250 card.
