So LinHES forced a drive check on boot tonight and it says that 69% of the files on the drive are non-contiguous. Code: 1940/47464448 files (69.8% non-contiguous), 123280271/189847765 blocks So what's the defrag options?

ext4. I migrated all my files on to this drive for the move to new(er) hardware. It said that it hadn't checked in 256 boots. |

You can use: Code: e4defrag -c /dev/sdxy where you adjust x and y to match your system. |

I ran it and less than a second later it bounced back as done! Either the backend has been defragging all day for me or I did something wrong. I re-ran it with a -cv and it has been going a little slower but that my just be because it's printing the name of every file on the hard drive now. |

I got to 394 mounts before I had a unrecoverable hard disk crash. http://forum.linhes.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=23867 http://forum.linhes.org/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=23911 Have you run gdisk with the v command on that EXT4 hard drive. http://forum.linhes.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=23929 I wiped everything and reinstalled EXT4 just like the first time and all the previous problems came back. I got lucky with my 2TB of video files and still had them still backed up scattered across four other drives. I did some read transfer tests before and after alinement with folder sizes from 40GB to 250GB and my transfer rate doubled after I aligned the drive. It should not of made that much difference but it did. I never did resolve the mount count issue. The long period of time it takes to run fsck on large disks at boot is a problem. A couple of years ago there was talk of creating a program that would scan the database at shutdown for a sufficient time period to run fsck and reboot and run it. TVBox |
