First off, i'll admit that i'm fairly new to linux in any manner...hence my question:

I have a new pvr-350 and I have had problems getting it working. I have stumbled across the info at http://205.209.168.201/~ckennedy/ivtv/new_tuners/ and have verified my tuner needs patched. I downloaded the patch, ran the gzip command, but when I run the patch command I get an error saying it can't find the file in line four and then it leaves me at the prompt "File to patch:". I have no idea how to proceed from here.

I am hoping someone will post explicit instructions on how to run this patch on the base knoppmyth install and then instructions for the compile and install.

thanks.

My understanding is that you'll need the newer ivtv release to get this to work, which I've done using ivtv-0.3.1z ... a thread in the last week or so discussed this. Do a search to find that thread.

So far I haven't replaced KnoppMyth's tuner module, even though it doesn't explicitly support type 47 (what new 350s seem to be). It seems to be doing OK with the newer ivtv and using options tuner type=44 for now.

I've got a request out to another poster about his method of recompiling the tuner module with ckennedy's patches as well, just for good measure.

...but looking at the source, I'm not sure it'll make much of a difference. The tuner module seems to accept 44 , and the numbers in the tunertype struct seem to match between 47 and 44 (in the patch). So the override to 44 should work exactly the same.

Oddly, the tuner.h/tuner.c in the -chw kernel source tarball doesn't have 44 and related info defined. Maybe there was a patch applied to tuner.h/tuner.c after the tarball was compiled? Because /lib/modules/2.4.25-chw/kernel/drivers/media/video/tuner.o seems to be accepting tuner 44... unless I'm misunderstanding dmesg output below:
Code:
tuner: type set to 44 (Philips 4 in 1 (ATI TV Wonder Pro/Conexant)) by insmod option
...
tuner: type already set to 44, ignoring request for 47

OK...I had downloaded and updated to ivtv-0.3.1z and type=44 is not working for me.

i would still like to instructions per my first post, but i'm also going to create a new post in another forum as my issues may not be related to the tuner patch.

Basically, I install Knoppmyth R4V5, and I get a black screen when I try to watch tv...i get this in my computer monitor as I am not even trying to figure out the TV-Out yet. I can't seem to figure out what is going....like I said..i'll post that info in another forum as it probably does not belong to the Usage/How To forum.

Thanks

Does it quickly flicker green, then stay black?

I kept seeing that. Then I hit the up-arrow and it tuned to a channel.
