I tried to install knoppmyth on a box with one ide hard drive (as hdc) and one ide cdrom (as hda). The installer script bailed out with an error shortly (a step or two-ish) after the step where the system's time is set. Swapping the IDE cables on my motherboard, and thereby making the hard drive hda and the cd hdc, solved this problem and the install is now done. Sorry to bother if this is a known issue. thomas |

Well known. KnoppMyth wants to install and boot from your IDE primary master. Anything else is an advanced topic requiring a manual install and tweaking the lilo configuration at the very least. |

First of all. A big thank you to everyone involved with KnoppMyth. It's really great. I've been playing around with it for a few days and installing it on several different computers. I had the same experience tlunde. I installed KnoppMyth on one computer and it worked great. When I tried on another the installation died. It took me a while to figure out what was wrong. I certainly understand defaulting to hda to ease setup, but it would be better to give an error like "hda is read only" or something when hda is a cd-rom, instead of just stopping. |

yes it would be nice, if you know how to modify the install scripts to work with any combination of disks please share. |

Ahh yes. Now my nights pulling my hair out and scouring the forums will help others. Try switching your IDE cables. i.e. unplug the cable from the cdrom(s) and put it in your hdd(s) without moving the motherboard end. And obviously vice versa for the cable originally plugged into the hdd(s). That should fix your problem. |
