Post subject:  VOB's on a hard disk

I know this may seem a little redundant, but I have complete DVD VOBs on my hard drive and would like to play them (obviously) Funny thing is is that they used to play on the same verison of knoppmyth running freevo - any ideas?

Do you mean ISO? if you do mean vob.. mplayer does play vob, have you tried playing it by commandline?

Hi Gr8

Yeah I know it does play them. As I said it did play them when i ran the same system but with freevo, there must be some sort of problem or config I am not aware of thats preventing me from running it of HDD, but then again, maybe Im just dumb :D

It would help if you could be very specific when you say "it doesn't work". Are you running mplayer from the command line? Are you getting an error message? Are you merely observing that the VOB files don't show up the "videos" folder of you MythTv display? Are the VOBs in the /myth/video directory? Have you tried any other players? Have you tried playing DVD content that originated under Myth instead of Freevo? You haven't given us much information to help you resolve your problem.

Or install xine, which I use regularly to check ISO images made from recordings by pointing it at the VOB directory...

Post subject:  getting ripped .vob's to appear and playback in video manage

This may be obvious to everyone else, but I've found no mention of it, so I'm adding this.

After looking at the "examples" and confirming that DVD's were being correctly ripped to /mythtv/video (as .vob's), they still didn't appear in Video Manager

I had to add a file type of .vob and an mplayer line with parameters. It looks like the only filetype that knoppmyth can play by default is .ogg's

Does knoppmyth R5A30.2 use mplayer to play dvds and videos? I thought I read otherwise somewhere.

Either way, DVDs dont play when I select PlayDVD. When I rip a dvd as perfect, the vob file shows up in the /myth/videos directory.

If I run mplayer DVD_VIDEO.vob I get the following output, ending in a fatal error. What is the simplest and most supported way of playing dvds and ripped dvds?

I found a partial answer to my question.

After running apt-get install vlc libdvdcss2, mplayer now gets a key and plays the dvd. It still does not see my vob or avi files in my videos folder.

I saw some references to installing pineapple. I could not get apt-get to find pineapple. Is pinapple any better than libdvdcss2?

Code:
root@mythtv:/etc/apt# apt-get install pinapple
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package pinapple

Mike, we don't talk about that here for reasons that have been described in too many threads to count. Search fro DMCA for more detail.
