Post subject:  automatic encoding -- seems to explode the file size?

Hey All,

They say there is no such thing as a stupid question. I'm sure to many of you this would qualilfy, however.. I am stumped.

I'm trying to encode recorded programs to a format of my choice. Straight mpeg2 is fine, DivX is better. I tried checking automatically transcode in every single option individually, all at once and unchecking everything. It seems no matter what I do I'm stuck with 15gigs for a single episode of ... *cough* opera...

Recently, I created a recording profile with my hostname and I went though and selected mpeg2 autmatic transcoding etc etc..

Still having the same issue, 15 meg files. The frustrating part is, when a show finishes its only about 2.5 gigs / hour, which is livable. 7.5 gigs/hour is a little much.

My question is this, what am I doing wrong? How can I possibly have something like DivX or Xvid automatically happen? If nothing else, how do I get it to _stop_ transcoding into HUGE files.

Thank you

you need to transcode to mpeg4 not rtjpeg. a search of the forum should pull up details fairly quickly it's been covered a couple of times.
