Hello, I'm a very new to the workings of Linux and hope someone can answer the following questions for me.

Right now, the default username and password is set to the same thing: mythtv. I'd like to change the password to something else (using the command passwd).

Is there anywhere else I need to change this password on? eg. the mysql database? Samba? Or will everything just work correctly?

Also, since the user mythtv logs itself in automatically everytime I start the machine, how does the computer know to enter the new password / or even what the new password is? I assume the password is in a login script somewhere, and so how does it know to change the login script when I change the password?

Just change it and see what breaks. You can always change it back to mythtv if you cant work out where to fix whatever is broken. I don't know for sure but I dont think you need to do anything else.

I changed the password without issue...no other changes required

by default the mythconverg database for mythtv is passwordless. You can set one up using the mysql-administrator GUI (google for it) if you want.
Also, you'll need to change the samba password separately by using smbpasswd (u can look it up in www.knoppmythwiki.org, its there somewheres).

Also for mythweb if you want to use .htaccess (again, knoppmythwiki.org is a good place to hang out and dig for howtos)

Besides which, they were talking about the password for the Unix user not the DB schema...
