| Post subject: | MUTE doesn't work in R5A12 on nForce2 |
I have a clean install of R5A12. I have finally gotten everything configured just the way I like it, but mute doesn't function in Live TV, TV Recordings, or Music. I checked to make sure that the keybindings were correct in MythWeb, and they hadn't changed. Anyway, I'm not able to mute... I've tried with the remote and with the keyboard (all 3 keys assigned to the mute function) and nothing happens - no OSD "Mute," no disappearing sound. Anybody have any ideas? |

It's always gratifying to see newbies who think we're god-like omniscient beings, but I'm sad to say it's simply not true. So if you don't tell us what remote you're talking about and maybe a few other details we're going to have to fall back on that old delphic standby, "perhaps a search of the forum?" |

Sorry... I didn't think the remote was important, considering the mute keys don't work even if I press them on the keyboard. I am using an ATI Remote Wonder, and I've used xmodmap to change some of the configuration... However, no matter what I map the MUTE function to, it doesn't work at all, system wide. Not from the keyboard, not from the remote. |

Have you gone through the settings menu? You may need to turn on (or off) the "use internal sound controls". Hang on while I go double check the path to it... OK... Take these with a grain of salt, my system is Nforce2 based but probably has a different motherboard and thus possibly a different sound chip. Utilities/Setup -> Setup -> General -> 3rd page
- Mixer device is "/dev/mixer" - Mixer control is "PCM" OBTW - When you're asking questions like this the more hardware details you can provide the better. |

TJC, we have almost exactly the same system. Shuttle SN41G2V2 Athlon XP 2800+ Barton 333 FSB 512K cache 2x256MB Crucial DDR333/PC2700 Seagate ST3200822A 200Gb 7200RPM 8Mb Pioneer DVD-RW A06 Hauppauge WinTV PVR 250 I checked the settings you suggested and they are identical to yours. What puzzles me is that MythTV doesn't even seem to be registering that MUTE is being turned on or off... there's no indication that I've even pressed a key. MUTE worked flawlessly on this same hardware with R4V5. This makes me think it's some weird software error I'm experiencing rather than hardware. |

The G2V2 has some motherboard changes over the G2. I think the sound support may be part of that.... |

Dead end on that idea... the only difference between the SN41G2 and the SN41G2V2 is the addition of a better power supply to the V2... so now what? I've searched forums, searched gossamer threads, searched google... I can't find anybody else having this problem... and it's really not a huge problem, but it would be nice if everything worked... |

Dude, I've researched this issue before. It's has a new version of the motherboard which can't even use the same BIOS updates. The motherboard in yours is a FN41V3.X, mine is a FN41 V2. I ain't making this up to shine you offf... You'll have to hunt down and DL the specs for both to compare them for exact details because my memory is vague on the point, but there were differences in the chips used when I investigated this for someone else. |
