Post subject:  DCT6200 and compiling 6200ch.c

I couldn't get 6200ch.c to compile on my KnoppMyth 0.17 box, so I couldn't use my DCT6200 cable box as effectively as I wished. However, KnoppMyth 0.18 compiled it just fine...but it didn't work....because:

-6200ch.c seems to have been hardcoded to look at Node 0 or 1 for the FireWire signal from the DCT6200. Running the channel change command, either from within Myth or from the command line, gave errors pointing to the non-existent Node 1 device.
-I opened 6200ch.c in a text editor on my G4 laptop, found the only reference to "Node", replaced the digit with "2", which is the Node where my DCT6200 resides, recompiled and ...crap! it still didn't work. for two reasons:
1) /dev/raw1394 needed proper permissions or nothing is displayed on the screen when the FireWire input is selected:
chown root:mythtv /dev/raw1394 (thank you, wififun)
2) chmod +x /usr/bin/6200.ch allows proper permissions for using it in Myth.

After that, I can now change channels on the DCT6200 using the Myth keyboard commands (and thus, my IR remote!).

Note: s-video IN from the DCT6200 TO my PVR250 allows me to watch ALL the channels decoded by the DCT6200. If I select MPEG2TS as the source input to watch, all non-HD channels are perfect. HD channels are in slow motion...haven't figured that one out yet. Any ideas, anyone?

hardware:
-mobo generic sh*tty M810D something-or-other w/onboard SiS sound, on-board LAN and video
-mobile 1.3GHz Athlon CPU
-30Gb harddrive (test mule)
-640RAM
-FireWireStuff combo PCI card
-PVR250

Thanks again, Cecil and Dale! This is just so much fun! w00t!

CORRECTION:

this line:
Quote:
chmod +x /usr/bin/6200.ch allows proper permissions for using it in Myth.

should be:
Quote:
chmod +x /usr/bin/6200ch allows proper permissions for using it in Myth.

crap! <sorry!>

well the reason hd would be in slow motion is because that processor is SEVERELY underpowered for hd content. Even if XvMC worked properly, you would be scrapping the bottom of the barrel for hdtv playback.
