I am a total n00b at mythtv. Even though I have 2 xbox'en running linux, linux mail server and linux on my laptop, I can't get this going - much to my FRUSTRATION!!! I thought this to be a good n00b entry level project to be completed in 2 hours. On record I 've installed and tried Ubuntu twice, FC3 (because of docs), Kubuntu and KnoppMyth x3, without success, but some progress.

STATUS:
1. I stay in Cape Town - no xmltv feeds avail for us in RSA, but can fill Db from file by setting up a dummy listing (Attenna) at setup. (There seems to be no dummy docs or screenshot ANYWHERE on the web to ensure I did OK). These I can browse from Mythtv, with correct channels and time. Video setup is /dev/video0, from XAWTV. Sources setup fine, channels setup fine.

2. I can setup XAWTV just fine, all channels play

3. Mythtv starts, but can't see live TV when selected, screen blanks and sometimes crashes or else return to first page. I ensure the backend is running, by stopping and starting as root, as I sometimes get the error that its not??

still no joy Obviously the webserver doesn't run, haven't even bothered to connect a SBE.


Needless to say, I tried probably EVERY combination possible with the sources, devices and channels during setup to try and get this working. Can it really be so difficult?? For now I just want a simple standalone to get starting. Card is a Pinnacle RAVE BT838 which works fine with xawtv.
I am almost certain that I don't understand the setup completely (of course screenshots-for-total-dummies would be graciously helpful here).
