This is a noob question, I imagine. Please bear with me and my lack of understanding.

Assume you have a setup with a PVR350 and a pc3000, on a machine that is both front- and back-end, and all is working properly.

On one hand, it's nice to play back mpeg2 streams via the PVR350 and let the PVR pick up the decoding to S-video. On the other hand, the HDTV stuff should rather go to a device capable of turning out component HDTV signal. Provided this latter device exists on the machine (e.g. analog VGA with correct modeline and VGA->component conversion box; or component-video enabled graphics card) and is working properly, how do you pick which one you are playing back from?

Is it possible do do that in a manner that a technotard or a 10-yr child can make happen?

If you have the processing power to decode and display HDTV, handling the output of the PVR-x50 or a DVD is child's play. Save the money and get the PVR-250, or one of the other models that lacks the TV output. Use the money to get a P4 3GHz so you can decode HDTV using Xv output to an nVidia card.

or a more direct answer no there is no easy way to switch back and forth, but as the other poster said just send everything through the hdtv route (component/dvi/etc)
